2019 Engagement Symposium | March 21, 2019
Democracy is both word and act. It is seen through our elections and political parties, and visible through political protest and debate. It is also evident in the way our citizens engage in thoughtful conversation and enact cultural performance. 2019 is a critical time to reflect and re-energize these practices as we confront a global landscape that sees trends away from democracy toward authoritarian tendencies.
2018 Engagement Symposium | April 12, 2018
The 2018 engagement symposium explored how community voice can be harnessed and focused to most effectively address communities' most pressing issues. The symposium featured faculty, student and community presentations around a variety of topics, including: affordable housing, improving health, racism, food access, heritage preservation and water.
Championing Civility Week | April 10-14, 2017
The K-State community declared April 10-14, 2017 Championing Civility Week, coinciding with World Civility Day on April 13, 2017. K-Staters enjoyed a week of programming and events that opened up new dialogue on civility from a variety of perspectives.
2017 Engagement Symposium | April 11, 2017
The symposium featured two keynote speakers. The morning kick-off keynote was Ed O'Malley, President and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center. Dr. Carolyn Lukensmeyer, Executive Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, gave the afternoon keynote. The event also featured scholarly presentations and deliberation demonstrations.
