Date: September 24, 2026
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Quorum: Met
Call to Order: The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Approval of Previous Minutes
Minutes from August 30, 2026; and from September 03, 2026, were approved as written.
Protocols Reviewed
Title: “Adenovirus Expressing Cre Recombinase Purchase and Usage”
NIH Guidelines: Sections III-D-1A, III-D-4-a, III-F-8 and Appendix C-I.
Meeting Comments: The research team aims to continue to use AdCre to induce colon cancer in a commercially available transgenic Apc-Braf mouse model. The study will then analyze tissues collected from the mice to evaluate the effects of the induced cancer. The project does not meet DURC/P3CO criteria, and appropriate biosafety procedures and mitigation plans are in place.
o The Committee voted unanimously to approve the motion.
- Throughout the protocol, please change “amiable” to “available.”
- Please update the answer to “Yes,” since the activities involve the use of transgenic mice.
- Please add humans as a host.
- Please review answers in the Agent Characteristics section and modify them as needed to include the relevant information regarding humans as a host.
- Please add all disinfectants listed in the previous section.
Title: “Development of cell lines to examine Arboviruses infections”. Major modification.
NIH Guidelines: Sections III-D-1-a, III-D-2-a, III-D-3-a, III-E-1, III-F-8, and Appendices C-I, C-II.
Meeting Comments: In this modification, the research group is seeking to add a commercially available 3rd-(replication-incompetent) lentiviral kit to generate a vector constitutively expressing either TERT or SV40 T antigen, then transducing primary cells to improve the likelihood of immortalization to the protocol. The previously approved project focused on developing novel cell lines derived from feral swine, peccaries, and domestic swine, and utilize these developed cells to elucidate the mechanisms JEV utilizes in infection, replication, and pathogenesis. The project does not meet DURC/P3CO criteria, and appropriate biosafety procedures and mitigation plans are in place.
o The Committee voted unanimously to approve the motion.
- Please indicate whether the pig tissues have been screened for pathogens and provide the screening results.
Other Business: Proposed changes to the NIH guidelines.
Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
