Protocols Reviewed
Title: “Study of Virulence factors in Clostridioides difficile”
NIH Guidelines: Sections III-D-1a; III-D-4b; III-F-8 and Appendix C2.
Meeting Comments: The project aims to advance understanding of C. difficile virulence mechanisms. The research involves examining a potential factor involved in these processes using standard research methods. The project does not meet DURC/P3CO criteria, and appropriate biosafety procedures and mitigation plans are in place.
- Please include that you will also be conducting studies in hamsters. This was not mentioned until later in the form.
- Please include that interstate travel of C. difficile will require a USDA permit.
- Please change the mention of “biosafety hood” or “hood” to biosafety cabinet.
- Please modify to reflect that many cases of C. difficile infection occur without immunosuppression, antibiotic use, or any other recognized risk factor.
- Please clarify that the answer provided is a treatment (rather than a control measure) and provide information on morbidity and mortality rates for these treatments.
- Please change “section F.2” to “Section 90.100.70.”
- The first sentence of this section refers to the frequency of room disinfection during the study.
