Protocols Reviewed

Title: “Investigation of Parvovirus and Feline Calicivirus Entry into host cells”

NIH Guidelines: III-D-2a, III-F-8, and Appendices C-I, and C-II.

Meeting Comments: The project aims to study the entry process of canine and feline parvoviruses and feline caliciviruses using various in vitro laboratory techniques. It is important to note that no live virus that can infect humans is going to be used in the research, only their VP1u gene. The project does not meet DURC/P3CO criteria, and appropriate biosafety procedures and mitigation plans are in place.

- Regarding the title "Investigation of Parvovirus and Feline Calicivirus Entry into host cells", the PI uses both canine and feline Parvovirus, so please consider including these in the title to be more specific.  Ex: "Investigation of Canine and Feline Parvovirus and Feline Calicivirus Entry into host cells".

- Please update the section to use non-scientific language and avoid technical terms such as “inhibitor assays” and “capsid proteins.”

- Please update to include HEK 293 cells as hosts.

- Please provide a brief explanation supporting the statement that the risk is BSL-2, specifically as it relates to the genetic work associated with this product.

- Please include additional details about the animal vaccine (e.g., when it is administered). Also note that the Hepatitis B vaccine is available and will be offered to the research team. If team members choose not to receive the vaccine, please state that a declination form will be provided in section 60.190.

Other Business: none.

Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
