ChALC Conference on Children’s Literature

April 5, 2008

In Fall 2006, the English Department at Kansas State University added a new track to the Master’s program: children’s literature. That same semester, English graduate students founded an organization to foster communication and interest in children’s literature both inside and outside of the English Department. The organization, Children’s and Adolescent Literature Community (ChALC), will host its first interdisciplinary conference on Saturday, April 5, 2008.

The conference will include speakers whose backgrounds are in education, library science, and English. The keynote speaker will be author/illustrator/artist Stephen Johnson.

ChALC invites proposals for papers that discuss children’s literature from a theoretical or literary standpoint. No other requirements pose limitations on paper topics. We encourage both undergraduate and graduate students of English (from all tracks or areas of concentration) to submit abstracts for conference presentation.

Please send abstracts of approximately 300-500 words in length to chalc@ksu.edu by March 10.

Direct questions to chalc@ksu.edu or to Melissa Glaser at msg@ksu.edu.
