The Center for Engagement and Community Development Announces Fall Engagement Brown Bags
The Center for Engagement and Community Development (CECD) is pleased to announce our Fall 2016 brown bag engagement series. These professional development sessions are designed for faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. The sessions will highlight the concept of university-community engagement through exemplars of KSU / community-engaged scholarship. These sessions are designed to help faculty think about developing community-based research and engagement skills, and provide foundational training for the next generation of engaged scholars. These interactive sessions will encourage faculty and students to critically reflect on the process and content of community-engaged scholarship.
The first brown bag session will take place on Friday, September 2, 2016. The topic will be Reclaiming Brownfields for Community Gardens, led by Dr. Ganga Hettiarachchi from the Department of Agronomy. Dr. Hettiarachchi will discuss her brownfield research and the technical assistance she and her team has provided around 87 brownfield gardening and farming sites nationwide over the course of the 7-year project. She will then discuss importance of effectively communicating the science of brownfield reclamation and also reflect on the collaborative nature of the work as she has worked closely with the communities where the brownfields are located.
The engagement brownbag will be held in the Leadership Studies building, room 247 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Our future upcoming brown bag sessions, held in Leadership Studies 247, are:
- Engaged Scholarship Consortium Previews: Friday, October 7, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Voter Readiness: Friday, November 4, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Imagining America and Cultural Arts Engagement: Friday, December 2, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
This series of engagement brown bags is free and open to all faculty, staff, and students. For any questions regarding the series, contact CECD at (785) 532-6868. We hope to see you there!
