TIMOTHY ROBERT DONOGHUE

In Memoriam: Timothy Robert Donoghue, May 3, 1936 – September 26, 2004.

He was born in Milton (MA) and graduated from Boston College (BS 1957) and then University of Notre Dame (Ph.D Physics 1963).  In 1963, he joined the Physics Faculty at The Ohio State University (OSU), and served as both Professor of Physics and co-Director of the Van de Graaff Accelerator Laboratory until his retirement from OSU in 1988.

Professor Donoghue served as the Associate Dean for Research in the Graduate School at Ohio State for a three-year period, where he initiated the development of major new interdisciplinary research programs and core research instrumentation facilities that significantly enhanced the research capabilities across the university.

After leaving OSU, he was appointed the first Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at Kansas State University, a position he held until his retirement in 1998.  He was highly recognized for his dynamic leadership in creating numerous interdisciplinary research initiatives campus-wide.  One of these initiatives was the establishment of the Biotechnology Core Facility.  Through his leadership and financial support the lab has developed into state of the art protein research facility that serves the faculties of the Reagent Institutions of Kansas as well as laboratories throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe and Japan.
