Lafene Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, has expanded its team with four new therapists who will enhance mental health support and well-being resources for Kansas State University students.

As the university’s primary mental health resource, Lafene CAPS provides free consultations, workshops, and group and individual therapy to eligible students. These new team members bring diverse experience and approaches to therapy, ensuring that every Wildcat has access to care that meets their unique needs.

Paige Mauch, licensed clinical social worker, holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Newman University and a Master of Science in social work from Texas Christian University. She is dedicated to supporting individuals through a strengths-based, compassionate approach that emphasizes empowerment and personal growth. Mauch strives to create a safe, inclusive and nonjudgmental environment where students feel encouraged to show up with vulnerability and courage as they navigate their challenges.

Heidi McNeil, licensed professional counselor, earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in clinical mental health counseling from Liberty University. She takes a curiosity-based, person-centered approach to therapy that prioritizes understanding her clients’ perspectives. McNeil integrates psychodynamic concepts to help students identify sources of stress, develop coping strategies and foster emotional resilience. She has a particular interest in supporting neurodiverse students and finding ways to make higher education more accessible so they can pursue their goals without compromising their mental health.

Samantha Schroer Ou-Yang, licensed professional counselor, received her Bachelor of Science from Ottawa University and a Master of Science in counseling psychology from Avila University. She is passionate about creating a supportive and collaborative space where students can explore their experiences, build resilience and work toward meaningful personal growth. Her warm and tailored approach helps students gain insight, strengthen coping skills and reconnect with their sense of self.

Lacey Stewart, licensed clinical professional counselor and nationally certified counselor, brings more than a decade of experience as a mental health counselor. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and a Master of Science in mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix. Stewart takes an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from a variety of evidence-based interventions to help students challenge their inner critic, overcome obstacles and foster growth and healing in their lives.

"Lafene CAPS is very excited to have four new therapists join our staff," said Stephanie Jacobs, CAPS associate director. "They each bring great experience and a passion for improving the mental health of K-State students."
