Online Exams and Proctored Testing
Some courses may require a proctor, a person who monitors students during an exam. K-State offers students free online proctoring with Honorlock.
Information
Some courses may require a proctor, a person who monitors students during an exam.
- You MUST have your proctor identified and all proper forms turned in to Global Campus by the end of the second week of class.
- Global Campus coordinates all communication with your proctor. Please contact Global Campus for all proctor issues.
- The instructor is not responsible for proctor communication, acceptance or administration.
Steps for getting a proctor
1. Determine who will be your proctor. The Global Campus website has a list of different types of proctors. Global Campus can also assist with finding proctors in your area if you email globaltesting@k-state.edu.
2. If you are using Honorlock as your proctor, the student will not need to submit a program agreement for. If you are using an in-person proctor, the proctor will submit the Global Campus proctor agreement form. This form will be submitted electronically.
3. After the form has been approved by Global Campus, you will receive a confirmation email of proctor acceptance. Please allow up to two (2) business days for the approval process.
4. After you receive confirmation from Global Campus, only then may you set up exam times on the exam dates with your proctor. If you have not received this notification in what would be considered a timely basis, you should follow up with Global Campus.
Proctor issues you must consider:
- In-person proctors may expect payment for this service. Any in-person proctoring fees will be the responsibility of the student. Note: Honorlock proctoring is free of charge for students
- For in-person proctors, make sure your proctor will be available for ALL of the exam dates. Some university and college testing centers will not proctor exams during their final exam week. There will not be any deadline exceptions made for proctors that are unavailable for a particular exam. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure their proctor is available for all of the exam dates in advance.
- Consider utilizing Honorlock for your online exams. Honorlock is free of charge for students. Students will have location flexibility, and Honorlock is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please review the Honorlock tab for further information. You can also reference the confirmation email from globaltesting@k-state.edu.
- Please understand that if you choose to take the exam on the last day and run into technical difficulties, or computer difficulties, you risk not being able to take the exam. It is not recommended to schedule an exam on the last day. Rather it should be used as backup.
- Should you need to be gone from work to take an exam, make sure your employer has granted you permission in advance to be gone from work for all of the exam dates.
- Make sure you arrange testing times in advance, as only your proctor can access the exam.
Expectations
A proctor is a representative of an academic unit who serves in place of your professor and observes you during an exam. They will monitor the materials you are allowed to use during the exam, your access to the exam and the time limit.
Procedures
- Have your proctor complete the Examination Proctor Agreement
- Submit your proctor form as soon as classes begin. Failure to do so will slow your course progression.
- Confirmation will be sent to the student and their proctor upon approval. Allow two (2) business days for processing.
Expectations
- Proctors who do not fit the list of appropriate proctors will be refused.
- Proctors may expect payment for this service. Any in-person proctoring fees will be the responsibility of the student. Note: Honorlock is free of charge for students
- Discuss the number of exams and length of each with your proctor, as it requires a time commitment.
- Verify your proctor will be available for all of your exams.
- Your proctor must agree to return exams in a timely manner.
