Prepare for Reverse Culture Shock

Everyone reacts differently to coming home, but it is common for students to experience difficulty re-adjusting to U.S. American culture. This is called 'reverse culture shock'.  Often, the more acculturated you were to the country you were visiting, the more you experience reverse culture shock when you return to the U.S.  Similar to the culture shock of adjusting to culture outside of the United States, it takes time and patience to re-adjust.  Being prepared for reverse culture shock is the best way to avoid the difficulties of reverse culture shock.
