• On the list: Veterinary Medicine's Dan Thomson on VetTechColleges.com's list of 20 Influential Farm Animal Veterinary Professors.

• Page-turner: Book by Diane Swanson, professor of management, finalist for best book award.

• Paper perfection: Marketing's Edward Nolin wins best paper honor from Society for Marketing Advances.

• Engineering standouts: American Society for Engineering Education, Midwest Section, honors engineering faculty members Kevin Wanklyn for teaching and Kimberly Kramer for service.

• Prestigious appointment: Chuck Rice, university distinguished professor of agronomy, serving a three-year term as chair of the national Committee on Environmental Microbiology, a component of the Public and Scientific Affairs Board of the American Society for Microbiology.

• 'Paw'-erful honor: Ralph Richardson, interim CEO and dean of K-State Olathe, receives Iron Paw Award from the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor.

• All that jazz: New book by university distinguished professor of jazz Wayne Goins is best in the blues. Goins also is serving as leading authority for new documentary film on jazz guitarist great Charlie Christian with rocker Brian Setzer.

• Top teacher: Dan Thomson, Jones professor of production medicine and epidemiology and director of the Beef Cattle Institute, named one of 20 influential farm animal veterinary professors by Vet Tech Colleges.

• Teaching champion: Kansas Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences names David Thompson, assistant professor of family studies and human services, as its Champion for Family and Consumer Sciences.

• On the board: Editorial advisory board for the American Ceramic Society Bulletin appoints Gurpreet Singh, associate professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering, as new member.

• Teaching star: Angela Powers, professor of journalism and mass communications, receives the 2015 Barry Sherman Teaching Award, the highest teaching honor of the Division of Media Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship of the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

• Publication leaders: American Society of Plant Biologists honors K-State scientists Barbara Valent and Ruth Welti as top authors as their work in that organization's journals has been cited nearly 800 times since 2009.

• National appointment: Randall Phebus, professor of food science to serve on the national Committee on Agricultural and Food Microbiology, a component of the Public and Scientific Affairs Board of the American Society for Microbiology.

• Smithsonian salute: Xiuzhi "Susan" Sun, university distinguished professor of grain science and industry, and Annelise Nguyen, associate professor of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology, will represent Kansas State University at the Smithsonian U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Innovation Festival.

• Tops in his field: Freddie Lamm, professor of biological and agricultural engineering and research irrigation engineer at the Northwest Research-Extension Center, is a new fellow of the American Society of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

• Award of distinction: Michael Dryden, university distinguished professor of veterinary parasitology, receives the 2015 AAVP-Merial Distinguished Veterinary Parasitologist Award.

• Select appointment: Gary Pierzynski, university distinguished professor and head of the department of agronomy, will serve a two-year term as the U.S. representative to the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils.

• High honor: Jeffrey S. Stevenson, professor of animal sciences and industry, receives the 2015 American Dairy Science Association Fellow Award.

• Service with honor: The First Infantry Division and Fort Riley recognize K-State's Briana Goff, School of Family Studies and Human Services, and Daryl Youngman, as Distinguished Troopers.

Mike Tokach, university distinguished professor of animal sciences and industry and swine extension specialist, is the recipient of the American Feed Industry Association's Non-ruminant Animal Nutrition Award for professional achievement.

• Cream of the crop: Ingrams magazine names K-State's David Nichols, professor animal sciences and industry, to its "50 Kansans You Should Know" list.

• Growing success: Horticulture research associate Robin Ruether makes Greenhouse Product News' "40 Under 40" list for leadership, creativity, innovative thinking and accomplishments within and outside the horticulture field.

• On the list: State Library of Kansas names Jim Sherow's "Railroad Empire Across the Heartland: Rephotographing Alexander Gardner’s Westward Journey" a Kansas Notable Book.

• K-State Video News, managed by Lindsey Elliott in the Division of Communications and Marketing, earns Silver Circle of Excellence Award from CASE.

• Honoring excellence: Graduate School Dean Carol Shanklin receiving the 2015 Excellence in Practice Dietetic Research Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

• Landing a spot: K-State Salina's Mark Blanks named to Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International board of directors.

• Distinguished service recognition: International Students and Scholar Services director Sara Thurston-Gonzalez receives the Homer Higbee Award.

• Paper with a punch: Political science faculty members receive best paper award for "The Effect of U.S. Troop Deployments on Human Rights."

• Love of Learning award: Librarian Joelle Pitts honored by Phi Kappa Phi

• For service, patriotism: President Schulz and Art DeGroat earn honor from Topeka Military Order of the World Wars.

• International connection: Chuck Rice and Walter Dodds receive scholarships from the Science Without Borders Program for visiting research in Brazil.

• A new fellow: Center on Aging's Gayle Doll named fellow of Gerontological Society of America.

• Advising excellence: College of Education's Ken Hughey receiving Virginia N. Gordon Award for Excellence in the Field of Advising.

• Distinguished honor: John Blair, university distinguished professor of biology, named a fellow of the Ecological Society of America.

• Tops in his field: K-State's Kevin Sauer is Kansas Dietetics Association's Distinguished Dietitian of the Year.

• Special recognition: Kasey Kile, instructor of early childhood education, named an Exceptional Emerging Leader by the Child Care Exchange.

• K-State Athletics video coordinator is best in Big 12.

Dallas Peterson becomes president of Weed Science Society of America.

• Service rewarded: Wendy Ornelas, professor of architecture, has received the Richard Upjohn Fellowship from the American Institute of Architects.

• Leader of the band: Frank Tracz selected to direct prominent all-star band.

• Leading the way: President Kirk Schulz is the new chair of the NCAA board of governors, which is the organization's highest-ranking committee.

• Up and coming: Gurpreet Singh, assistant professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering, has received a $500,000 National Science Foundation CAREER award for his nanotechnology research.

Ray Buyle, assistant professor of architectural engineering and construction science, is the recipient of the Associated General Contractors of America 2015 Outstanding Educator Award.
