Concepts (Purpose)
Core purpose
I have asked this question of thousands of parents in my Responsive Discipline workshops over the last thirty years. Their responses reveal what is most important to these parents: themes of self-confidence, courage, personal responsibility, and respect for others.

Your response to this question is your core purpose. Everything you do as part of discipline depends on whether you are responding in a way that brings your children closer to this outcome.

If you are taking this course with another parent, compare what each of you described as a core purpose. There is no right answer, only what is important to you. Discuss what you have in common and how your core purposes are different.
