Tool #35. Say NO!

Definition:
When children are unsure about how serious you are about a limit, get their attention and give a calm but firm signal of your disapproval (sometimes called The Look).

Examples:
bulletFather and his young son are visiting the mall. The little boy starts begging for a toy he sees in a toy store display. "No," the father says, "I will not buy you that toy."
bulletMother sees her preschooler take several cookies right before dinner. She gets his attention and gives him THE LOOK. He puts the cookies back.
