This is a skill Tune out provocations
As you feel anger rise, sometimes the best response is to simply "tune out" or ignore something that is little more than a provocation. This is especially important if children are playing a game of "Getting Mommy's (or Daddy's) goat." The behavior we are ignoring should not be critical and its consequences nonthreatening. For example, we should not overlook a child's hitting.
