1. Recognize the struggle
Chronic anger upsets the delicate checks and balances of brain chemistry. Anger management by individuals who have a long history of difficulty with anger involves changing how their brains work. Of course, changing one’s own brain chemistry for the long-term can be an extremely difficult task.

When walking along a well-traveled path through a dense forest, we are not inclined to strike out on a different route. To change chronic anger we have to struggle with our own minds and find ways of reprogramming ourselves. No simple task for either the helper or the person being helped.
