I agree. The original, real source of anger is often hidden. The "trigger" might be obvious. For example, we might point to a preschooler throwing food on the floor as the source of our anger. This might actually be the source. But strong anger in this circumstance is likely to have its source in a greater threat originating elsewhere. For example, the parent may be in an unhappy marriage or having trouble with an unreasonable supervisor at work.

Some forms of anger management deal only with the immediate expression of anger. Managing the original source of the threat is essential but more difficult.

The question to ask ourselves when we feel anger is, "What am I really angry about?"
