Assessment is "thinking during the heat"
Evaluation is an activity that you can do removed from the actual experience of anger and is employed primarily as an anger prevention activity. We consider a rational standard for making a judgment about our anger. Evaluation skills are essentially "cool" because they depend on more intellectual effort.

Assessment is similar but takes place during the anger experience. Assessment is "thinking during the heat." Assessment skills are "hot" because of the emotion that surrounds them. Assessment is thinking in motion.

There are four FireWorks skills that fit this category:

This is a skill Conduct a risk assessment
This is a skill Tune out provocations
This is a skill Encourage myself with rational self-talk
This is a skill Avoid anger triggers
