My response to stress
I know I am feeling stress and anxiety when my mouth goes dry. My son was in a horrible accident in a distant town several years ago. We knew he was being rushed to a hospital with a severe spinal injury. For two hours, we didn’t know if he would survive or whether he was paralyzed. I found it difficult to console my wife. I had to leave the house to walk in a nearby park. I had to get away. I had to DO something.

I experienced a severe dry mouth, esophagus, trachea, lungs, and nasal passages. I couldn’t spit and had a difficult time swallowing comfortably. I was dehydrated.

You probably react differently. If you have never experienced GREAT fear, you may not know how your body will react. Before this moment, I didn’t really understand how I would respond.

My son had a broken neck, back, and ribs. After a long recuperation he has resumed a healthy and productive life (and how he did is a story worth telling another time).
