Text Box: In other news, there have been some recent changes in the Women’s Studies Program. This summer, our director, Cia Verschelden, was selected as K-State’s Director of Assessment. Assessment of student learning is a university priority and one of Dr. Verschelden’s strengths. One of her major accomplishments during her time as director was devising a system to gauge how successfully our program communicates the knowledge and abilities critical for our students. Dr. Verschelden will continue to lead efforts in this area in her new position. While we are sorry to lose her as director, we appreciate her hard work for the program over the past two years. We are delighted, too, that Dr. Verschelden will continue to teach two Women’s Studies courses per year as part of her new appointment.
Because Dr. Verschelden was selected for her new position during the summer months, I was temporarily appointed by the dean to serve as acting director. A search for a new director is currently underway.
Other faculty news includes a move by Dr. Carolyn Comiskey from her position as instructor in Women’s Studies to advisor in the Study Abroad Office. Again, while we regret the loss of Dr. Comiskey, she is enthusiastic about developing new opportunities for our Women’s Studies students to study abroad. We have hired a new instructor, Dr. Valerie Carroll, and are pleased with the new ideas and energy she brings to the program.
We would like to do a better job of letting our students in Women’s Studies know what they can do with their commitment to improving women’s lives, especially now that we offer a major. No one is better equipped to do this than you our graduates. Please drop us a line or an email and let us know where you are and what you are doing.
Yours,

Dr. Angela Hubler, Associate Professor and Acting Director

Greetings! The most exciting news from Women’s Studies is the graduation our first crop of five Women’s Studies majors!  Although May 2005 was the first graduation after the Regent’s approval of our major, we had several students who were secondary majors and were able to complete enough credits to graduate as majors.  We are very proud of the newest development in our program and our wonderful students.
