In 2005, the K-State Women's Center and Campaign for Nonviolence sponsored four K-State students to attend Peacemaker training. The International Fellowship of Reconciliation offers various forms of this training at various locations around the country. Our students attended the PTI for young adults 17-25 years old. Young people around the globe hold a vision of a more just and peaceful society. Deeply concerned about pervasive violence and injustice, many youth are seeking to create nonviolent alternatives and take an active part in positive social change. (FOR)The Peacemaker Training Institute helps young people become more effective peace and justice activists. The Fellowship of Reconciliation, itself, was established in 1914 by people hoping to prevent World War I. FOR is the oldest peace organization in the U.S. and over the years it has become an interfaith and international movement with branches and groups in over 40 countries and on every continent. Today the membership of FOR includes Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, and people of other faith traditions, as well as those with no formal religious affiliation. In January 2005, Eric Banner (senior in biology from Manhattan) and Meiyappan Thandayuthapani (graduate in software engineering from India) attended PTI in Bangor, PA and in July, Mary Stolz (senior in print journalism and women's studies) and Megan Challender (senior in Political Science from Emporia) attended PTI near Austin, Texas. We will try to continue sending students to a PTI training in the future. If you are interested, let someone in the Women's Center know; and if you are willing to help fund this Campaign for Nonviolence project, let us know that, too!
No peace in the world without peace in the nations. No peace in the nations without peace in the towns. No peace in the towns without peace in the home. No peace in the home without peace in the heart.
