My lab is set up to do a variety of population genetic and phylogeographic analyses. I use a number of molecular techniques including microsatellites, AFLP's and sequencing. I address questions of hybridization, population structure, introgression, exotic invasion, behavior and demography using these techniques.
In addition I maintain a laboratory devoted to the extraction and amplification of ancient DNA. Because DNA from old sources (museum specimens and subfossils) is of low quality and yield, the risk of contamination from PCR product and high quality DNA is of concern. I maintain my Ancient DNA lab in a separate building where no other DNA analyses are conducted to decrease the risk of contamination.
