Research Associate; Wheat Molecular Genetics / Germ plasm enhancement

LOCATION: Wheat Genetic & Genomic Resources Center; Department of Plant Pathology, 4024 Throckmorton Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS 66506.

APPOINTMENT: Term appointment, renewable based upon satisfactory progress and continued funding.

AVAILABLE: 15 April, 2009.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop improved wheat germ plasm using the tools of molecular biology, reverse genetics, and/or molecular mapping; characterize traits from wheat and wild relative with a primary focus on disease resistance; mutant isolation by reverse genetic screens (TILLING); functional analysis of agronomically important genes; wheat genome/chromosome analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: 1. PhD degree in plant sciences/genetics/agronomy with a background in molecular genetics, molecular biology, or a related field; 2. demonstrated quality of work and ability to design and conduct independent experiments with strong commitment on achieving goals; 3. excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment. Preferred: 1. Experience in wheat/plant genetics, molecular genetics, and cereal crop plant pathology and/or 2. bioinformatics skills.
