WESP is a student services office working with students in K-State’s College of Engineering and Arts and Sciences. We are primarily concerned with creating academic, social, educational, and professional opportunities to support women and men in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Scholars Assisting Scholars (SAS) Tutoring
Scholars Assisting Scholars (SAS) is an NSF-funded, peer-to-peer tutoring program that is designed to support students in core engineering and science classes. SAS tutoring is FREE to all K-State students enrolled in the supported courses. Since its inception in Spring 2006, SAS has tutored over 3,300 K-Staters!

CampuS Internship (CSI) Program
CSI is an NSF-funded internship opportunity for first-year students in science and engineering. Students are matched with a faculty member in their department and work 8-10 hours per week on departmental research.

CONNECT Program
Our CONNECT Program works to make sure family members are “in the know” about what an engineering education looks like. We work with engineering students’ parents and family members from June orientation/enrollment through the students’ first year on campus.

WESP Learning Communities
Each semester, WESP works with faculty partners in Engineering and Arts and Sciences to encourage our female students in outside-the-classroom education. All female students are invited to participate in small groups centered around “hot topic” books. Recent selections included “The World is Flat,” “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” “The Kite Runner,” and “Hot, Flat, and Crowded.” To participate in a semester-long learning community, contact the WESP office.

Making a Difference Awards
WESP’s annual Making a Difference Awards are a unique way for female students to thank the faculty, staff, mentors, supervisors, or other students who have helped them during their time at K-State. In the four years of Making a Difference Awards Ceremonies, 250+ awards have been given out. During the 2009-10 school year, we will have the Awards ceremony in January 2010. Watch your email for a chance to nominate someone!

On-Campus Activities
WESP also plans and implements a number of on-campus activities to support the success of our students. We host resume/dress-for-success workshops, pumpkin carving events, the K-State Giving Tree Project in December, get-to-know-your-faculty luncheons, and K-State Open House activities, just to name a few. If there are additional ways we can support you in the pursuit of your degree, please do let us know!
