How can I get involved?

At the beginning of the school year, the Hall Governing Board will hold elections for unfilled positions. There also might be an HGB election to fill vacancies left after the fall semester is over. Finally, a new HGB is elected late each spring to finish out the year and to serve the following school year. There are also opportunities to participate with the Judicial Board, Homecoming, and many hall events. Watch for postings, and talk to the MA/RA and HGB members to learn more!

What is HGB parking all about?

Selected members of the Van Zile HGB (president, vice president, etc.) receive a special parking sticker that allows them to park on the east side of the parking lot behind Van Zile. This serves as a special perk for the hard work of HGB members and also simplifies the jobs of some members who must travel to special meetings, obtain supplies, etc.

Is there recycling in Van Zile?

During the 2003-2004 school year, new recycling policies forced some major changes in the way materials were recycled in the halls. Because recycling containers were no longer allowed in the trash closets, individuals were only left with the option to store recyclables in their rooms. Once a week, the environmental chair would visit the rooms and collect newspapers to be brought to Howie's Recycling. An improved residence hall wide policy has supposedly been adopted, but until it is fully implemented this old system will continue to operate. Be sure an participate in the weekly recycling pick-ups. Thanks for your help doing a small part to reduce the trash we send to the landfill.

Where do I eat my meals?

On weekdays, meals are served for the entire Strong Complex on the ground floor of Van Zile. On weekends (all meals except Sunday supper) are served across the street in Kramer Dining Center. Van Zile residents always have the option of using Kramer or Derby Dining Center even when the Van Zile Dining Center is open. Current meals and hours can be found online:
