Arnold Air SocietyC1C Ben K.

Welcome to the Arnold Air Society's 1Lt Lloyd B. Vorhies Squadron.

This chapter of Arnold Air Society (AAS) is named after First Lieutenant Lloyd Birch Vorhies, a K-State student and American Expeditionary Force pilot who flew during World War I.  1Lt Vorhies was born in Alva, OK on 12 April 1897.  He made the ultimate sacrifice shortly after take-off from Issouden, France on 11 July 1918.  He volunteered for enlistment in the US Army's Signal Corps during his junior year at Kansas State University, then known as the State Agricultural-Mechanical College.

The Vorhies Squadron is most well known for its support of K-State's Vietnam Veterans Memorial, its community service events, its efforts to increase local awareness of America's POWs and MIA personnel, and its Veterans Day 24-hour Silent Guard.

KSU's AAS Squadron was recently elected to be the AREA VIII Staff for the 2013-2014 year.  They will take command at the National Conclave being held in Atlanta over Easter weekend 2013. As Area VIII staff, they will oversee the management and operations of all Squadrons in a five-state area.

The Vorhies Squadron prides itself on the AAS mission:  "To create outstanding Air Force officer candidates through the implementation of additional training while working as a society to further the purpose, traditions and concepts of the United States Air Force"
