Insert text

The content area is located beneath the three-paneled image area. This is where you put your body copy.

Text may be inserted three ways:

  1. Typing directly into Contribute.
  2. Creating the type in another program, such as Microsoft Word, and importing it.
  3. Taking material from an existing web page and inserting into Contribute.

Typing directly into Contribute

Type the text directly in the program, then format it using the provided styles.

Creating the type in another progam

First, clear the type of formatting. In Word you highlight all the type, then go to the Edit pull-down menu. Choose Clear, then Formats.

Then simply select the type in your word processing program, copy it (Command+C), return to Contribute, and paste it (Command+V) into the Content 1 area. Format the type using the provided styles. Reselect all the text in Contribute and change the text settings to read: Normal, Default font, and choose Default for the size.

Taking material from an existing webpage

Select and copy the type (Command+C) from the web. Paste it into Word (Command+V), or another program capable of clearing the text of formatting. Clear the text of formatting. In Word you highlight all the type, then go to the Edit pull-down menu. Choose Clear, then Formats.

Copy the type (Command+C) in Word. Paste it into Contribute. Format the type using the provided styles. Reselect all the text in Contribute and change the text settings to read: Normal, Default font, and choose Default for the size.

Important note

Formatting with a style applies to an entire paragraph. A paragraph is defined on the web by a return, or what is know as a "break." However, a soft return, or Shift+Return, is often used on the web as well. The two are similar in appearance, but a Shift+Return does not create a true break, and thus will not allow more than one type of formatting to be applied to a section.

Be especially wary of Shift+Returns when copying from the web and placing into Contribute. That's why we recommend that you paste the text into another program and clear it of formatting before pasting it into Contribute. Refer to the section on Formatting text for more information on text issues.
