Martial Arts Courses for K-State Credit

These courses are offered for credit through the Division of Continuing Education with the cooperation of various Kansas State University departments. Fees for these classes differ depending on special instructor and equipment needs. Students may view the recreational credit classes that are available and then move on to the iSIS site for enrollment. Link to Credit Class Policies.

Fees in addition to the base credit hour fee generally apply in order to cover other costs associated with offering the courses.

Tae Kwon Do, Judo

Tae Kwon Do I RRES 200
Tae Kwon Do is an effective way to unify the mind and body. It helps develop one’s health by increasing cardiovascular abilities, strength, balance and flexibility. The basics of blocking, punching, kicking, self-defense and white belt form will be covered. Class will consist of practicing these skills as a group, working with other classmates and the instructor one-on-one. At the end of the semester, students will have the option to be tested for their orange belt.

Judo I RRES 200

Judo I is an introduction to the Olympic sport of Judo. Students will learn mat etiquette, break falls, basic mat and throwing techniques. Judo I is intended not for gaining proficiency, but to gain understanding of how principles of dynamics (force, acceleration, momentum, work, rotation, moment of inertia, etc.) are used to gain physical advantage (subduing the opponent). Techniques are selected for safety of participants and for demonstrating fundamental principles.

Judo II RRES 200

In Judo II, participants continue to gain understanding of how principles of dynamics are used to gain physical advantage. New and advanced skills are taught along with safety techniques. In preparation for competitive effectiveness, techniques will be tailored to fit the individual's physique.
