The Kansas State University Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) Program
is a federal program designed to create educational opportunities for high
school students from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged
backgrounds. UBMS prepares students for the successful completion of
secondary and postsecondary degrees that lead to careers in the fields of
math or science.
PROGRAM FOCUS
- To motivate each UBMS
program participant to a high level of educational achievement, and
- To prepare each
participant with the academic skills necessary for college placement and
graduation in math or science.
PROGRAM GOALS
- To ensure a timely and
distinguished high school graduation for each participant.
- To raise competency in
challenging subject matter such as: mathematics, science, foreign
language, technological applications, scientific research and
literature.
- To assist participants
in the scholarship, grants, and financial aid process, and to ensure
collegeadmissions.
- To encourage students to
pursue college programs that lead to careers in the fields of
mathematics and science.
- To work with parents
and communities to foster the social, cultural, and academic growth of
each participant.
