Trauma can result from an injury, event, or situation that causes an emotional wound to an individual. This can create significant lasting damage and distress to the psychological development of a person. Traumatic Events include:

War/Terrorist attacks
Sexual abuse/assault
Physical abuse/assault
Severe accidents/deaths
Natural disasters
Other overwhelming events

The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) the world’s premier trauma organization dedicated to trauma treatment, education, research and prevention. Through this organization, professionals share information about the effects of trauma, seeking to reduce traumatic stressors and their immediate and long-term consequences.

International Critical Incident Stress Foundation

The International Critical Stress Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, open membership foundation dedicated to the prevention and mitigation of disabling stress through the provision of: Education, training and support services for all Emergency Services professions; Continuing education and training in Emergency Mental Health Services for Psychologist, Psychiatrists, Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors; and Consultation in the establishment of Crisis and Disaster Response Programs for varied organizations and communities worldwide.

Child Trauma Academy

The ChildTrauma Academy is an organization that is based in Houston, Texas. The Mission of the Academy is to improve the lives of traumatized and maltreated children and their families.
