Helpful hints for submitting articles to K-State Today

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

K-State Today is a great way to let K-Staters know what's going on in your corner of campus. Most of all, contributing articles to K-State Today is easy. Simply fill in the information boxes at http://www.k-state.edu/today/submit/.

If the submission is about an event, please include the following information in the biggest text box on the submission form: the time and date of the event, the location of the event, and any necessary registration or contact information. If submitting an article about a lecture, you may include the text from the abstract in the article or link to a K-State Web page that has more information.

When submitting an article, make sure the text is not written in all capital letters and that full sentences are used so readers can understand the content. Also, avoid using acronyms because not all readers may be familiar with what that acronym means. The same text from a brochure or website can make for an easy announcement by copying and pasting into the K-State Today Web form. Paste the text into the K-State Today submission boxes using the "paste and plain text option" — it's the icon that looks like a clipboard with a T on it. This removes the "text formatting" that Word documents add to quotes and apostrophes and keeps your message from getting lost by keeping all the words and your comments intact.

If pasting from another text source, be sure it does not contain references specific to another media source, such as "for more information view the back of this brochure."

Because of email size restrictions, pictures can be no larger than 240 pixels wide or 240 pixels tall. Please do not submit posters with event information as a picture because the text becomes illegible when it is 240 pixels in size.

A summary box is available to provide a quick, 255 character-long description about your article. This summary is used on the K-State Today home page only. You may want to use the first paragraph of your article as your summary.

As always, all K-State Today submissions are due by noon the weekday before you would like for the item to appear. For Monday's email, the deadline is Friday at noon. Submissions sent after the noon deadline will not appear in the next day's K-State Today email because K-State Today editors need time to review all submissions.

If you have any questions about the process, you may email them to vpcm@k-state.edu.

Thanks to your contributions, K-State Today has grown immensely since it began more than two years ago. Thank you for making K-State Today such a success.
