Outstanding senior: Student from La Crosse excels beyond the classroom

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Nick Moeder

When it comes to being engaged with your university, Nick Moeder stands out. His devotion to Kansas State University and the College of Business Administration, paired with high academic achievement and numerous leadership positions in the college and throughout the university have made him the college's spring 2013 Outstanding Senior award winner.

Moeder has been a leader in the college, serving as a business ambassador, president of the Dean's Advisory Council and a senator for the college in the Student Governing Association. Outside of the college, he has also been active as president of the university's Student Foundation, member and leader of Blue Key senior honorary, assistant co-chair of K-State Proud and a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

The Outstanding Senior award is selected on service contributions students have made to the College of Business Administration as an undergraduate, including involvement in the college, engagement in the university community and personal academic success. A committee from the Dean's Student Advisory Council selects the recipient.

A native of La Crosse, Moeder graduated from La Crosse High School. He planned to study engineering at Kansas State University, but has thrived as a business student, majoring in finance and accounting and adding a minor in leadership studies and a certificate in international business.

"Nick has been a terrific student and student leader, setting a great example for his colleagues," said Ali Malekzadeh, Edgerley family dean of the College of Business Administration. "We look forward to seeing where his career takes him and having him as an alumni."

Moeder has participated in several study abroad programs, including trips to Europe and Asia, and has been active in the college's newest programs, having been one of the first students to apply to the Executive Mentor program and helping with the implementation of Professional Advantage.

During his undergraduate career, Moeder has been the recipient of many scholarships, including being a Putnam Scholar, a Delta Sigma Phi McKee Scholar and receiving the Phi Kappa Phi Sophomore Scholastic Award. He has been on the university's semester honors list nearly every semester since 2008.

For two summers, Moeder interned at Koch Industries Inc. in Wichita. During the school year, he has worked in the College of Business Administration dean's office since 2010.

Moeder, the son of Duane and Linda Moeder, La Crosse, will join Ernst & Young in Kansas City this fall.
