Housing and dining services announces new facility for honors students

Submitted by Alison Rogers

K-State students participating in the University Honors Program will have a new housing option for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Housing and dining services is renovating a facility, formerly the Kappa Sigma Fraternity house, to serve as the new Honors House. Located only a short walk west of campus, the coeducational house will accommodate a combination of first-year students and upperclassmen.

Residents will have access to resources and amenities similar to those found in the current on-campus facilities, plus a few specific to Honors House. In addition to free wireless Internet, free laundry, social and leadership opportunities, a dining center meal plan and more, they will enjoy the benefits of a focused living environment with an emphasis on community development and academic success.

Stephen Kiefer, director of the University Honors Program, is excited about the partnership with housing and dining services.

“For the first time we will have a facility dedicated to honors students and, with the amenities and spaces available there, we plan to have major programming events throughout the academic year,” Kiefer said.

Kiefer added that residents of the house also will have the opportunity to promote the University Honors Program by hosting events for the entire community.
