Flyer for Civic Leadership Week

Civic Leadership Week is a chance for our K-State family to invest in the greater Manhattan community through service. The week features a variety of volunteer opportunities through partnerships with diverse organizations.

Best of all, these volunteer opportunities have different times for each day, allowing for participants to pick which best suits their schedules. Below are the week's sites and times. To sign up for any of these, please visit the HandsOn website under 'Find an Opportunity.'

"Focus on Nonprofits" on Monday, March 4, will take place during various times and locations.

Volunteers will be performing a range of activities that are desperately needed for our partner organizations, from cleaning to organizing to moving furniture. Those who need transportation must contact handson@ksu.edu before Monday.

  • GoodWill of Manhattan, 1-5 p.m.
  • Manhattan Emergency Shelter, 1-3 p.m.
  • Salvation Army, 1-5 p.m.
  • Seven Dolor's Budget Shop, 1-5 p.m.

"Harvester's Mobile Distribution" at 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in City Park.

  • A follow-up to our September event, this distribution addresses local hunger issues to continue the dialogue in our Manhattan community. The distribution will take place in the City Park Pool parking lot. Volunteers are also eligible to receive the available food as well.

"Voter Awareness and Registration" on Wednesday, March 6, at various times and locations.

  • A major part of civic leadership includes citizens taking ownership of our country's democratic system. Encourage campus and community members to register or transfer voting registration in order to participate in Manhattan local elections.
  • Locations: Hale Library, K-State Union, Manhattan Public Library
  • Time shifts for all locations: 10-11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1-2:30 p.m.

"Adopt a Senior" on Thursday, March 7, at various times and locations.

  • In order for the continuation of our local cultures, it is essential for younger generations to invest personally in our elderly citizens. Volunteers at these sites will enjoy conversing, playing games, even crafts with the residents of our two locations. Come make new friends in the community.
  • Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, 1-3 p.m.
  • Via Christi Village, 1-5 p.m.

"Neighbor Awareness" at 2-5 p.m. Friday, March 8, in surrounding campus neighborhoods.

  • Volunteers will distribute door-to-door information about the consequences of ordinance violations that residents might not be aware of. This is to ensure a safe, fun Fake Patty's Day with the needs of our communities in mind.

"Fake Patty's Day Clean-Up"- Sunday, March 10, 2013; 10 am-Noon

  • This is a wonderful chance for students to build positive relationships within our community by keeping it safe, friendly, and clean. There's nothing fake about the mess we make!

Please visit handson.ksu.edu to sign up for these opportunities and more.
