Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Step by step, Kansas State University is climbing the ladder of success. The 2013 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges list ranks the university 139th in the Best National Universities category -- up from 143rd in 2012's rankings.

In addition, the university's College of Engineering is ranked as one of the top undergraduate engineering programs in the nation at 75.

"We're thrilled to see Kansas State University advance four places in this competitive and historic ranking of national universities and their programs," said Kirk Schulz, university president. "It's also no surprise to see the College of Engineering named one of the best in the nation again since Kansas State has the largest, most comprehensive engineering school in Kansas. I anticipate Kansas State continuing to advance in the U.S. News and World Report rankings as we move forward to become a Top 50 public research university by 2025."

U.S. News and World Report assess 1,500 of the country's four-year colleges and universities. Data with up to 16 indicators of academic quality are gathered from each institution and tabulated. Schools are ranked in categories by their total weighted score.

"We are pleased with our improvement in the 2013 rankings," said John English, dean of the College of Engineering and Leroy C. and Aileen H. Paslay chair in engineering. "Our degree program has produced many skilled engineers around the world, making great contributions to both to the profession and society. As our enrollments grow to meet the demands of society and to improve our quality of life, it is exciting to see our national prominence advance."

The U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on performance and survey data as well as a peer evaluation by department heads and chairs from the other colleges. A full breakdown of the university's rankings can be found online at colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges.
