Soumia Bardhan, assistant professor of communication studies and director of global communication initiatives, will share stories of her personal journey in a talk, "Finding My Indian 'Self' to Represent the 'Other' in Western Academia," from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building.

The What Matters to Me and Why speaker series is designed to build and strengthen bonds between people who teach, learn and work together daily, and to foster understanding of how each of us embraces our values and K-State's Principles of Community.

A free box lunch will be provided starting at 11:45 a.m. and an RSVP is requested by Oct. 9. Visit k-state.edu/leadership/events/journeys.html to sign up and see the entire fall speaker lineup.

The purpose of What Matters to Me and Why is to encourage reflection within the K-State community on matters of personal values, beliefs and motivations in order to better understand the lives and inspirations of those who serve and shape the university.

This event is co-sponsored by the Staley School of Leadership Studies, the College of Education and the President's Committee on Religion.
