Vellenga conducts artistic research in Australia with Oz to Oz Initiative

Submitted by Cindy Friedrich

Jennifer Vellenga, associate professor of acting and directing and associate director of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, recently traveled to Sydney and Albury-Wodonga, Australia, as a guest artist of the Hothouse Theatre Company.

Vellenga's research included visits to La Trobe University, Charles Sturt University and developmental work on a new play based on the stories of rural American and Australian citizens. She provided workshops to student actors for Hothouse Theatre at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus with playwright Lachlan Philpott. Philpott was a 2014 Australian-American Fulbright scholar whose play, "Bustown," was produced by K-State Theatre in February 2014.

Vellenga will continue her collaboration with Hothouse Theatre remotely with an expected return to Albury in 2019. Vellenga's research was sponsored by the provost's Oz to Oz initiative.
