Three students receive Swogger Scholarships

Submitted by Caitlyn Dougherty

Three Kansas State University students are recipients of the Swogger Primary Texts Scholarship through the primary text certificate program

Caitlyn Dougherty, a junior majoring in history with a double minor in political science and philosophy, won a research-based scholarship. She plans to analyze the ideals of liberalism and realism in the context of international relations between international actors.

Jacob Mikuls, a junior in financial management with an emphasis in pre-law, will research George Washington's Delaware crossing, particularly through the examination of related correspondence.

Jessica Gittemeier, a senior in political science, has received a supplemental $500 scholarship. She is a previous recipient of the Swogger Scholarship who studied Middle Eastern politics and Britain and the European Union through Oxford Study Abroad in summer 2016 and now wishes to revise and submit her research on the philosophy of democratic peace to publication outlets.

The Swogger Scholarship is open to K-State students who are enrolled in the primary text certificate program. Both students will receive $1,000 for their successful research proposals and will work with Laurie Johnson, professor of political science, to produce papers with the aim of presenting or publishing in undergraduate research outlets.

The Swogger Primary Texts Scholarship can be used to fund research or to assist with travel to primary texts-related study abroad programs, particularly the Oxford Study Abroad program.
