Counseling Services announces new director

Submitted by Alison Rogers

Dan Larson

Dan Larson joined K-State as the new director of Counseling Services in April. From Galesburg, Illinois, he was most recently in private practice after serving 17 years as associate dean of students and director of health and counseling at Knox College.

Larson obtained his doctorate from Northern Arizona University in 1996 and his master's degree from the University of South Dakota in 1991.

Larson is a licensed psychologist with more than 25 years in the field, including experience in higher education and community counseling. In addition to directing a college counseling center, Larson has worked in a variety of clinical settings including a suicide prevention center, an inpatient hospital and a residential adolescent facility.

"I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the new director of Counseling Services at Kansas State, and build upon the work of the retiring director Dr. Dorinda Lambert," Larson said. "I feel fortunate to join the K-State family, and to work with members of the faculty and staff. But most importantly, I am looking forward to meeting and interacting with the students of K-State. In my short time here, I have been impressed with how active students are on campus, from the Student Government Association members to the countless students doing outreach and awareness activities."

"In these first few months, I plan on meeting with students, faculty, and staff to hear firsthand how Counseling Services can best serve their needs," he said.
