Collegiate Readership Program to be discontinued

Submitted by Bill Harlan

The Collegiate Readership Program on the Manhattan campus will be discontinued at the end of the spring semester.

The program provided free copies of the New York Times, USA Today, Kansas City Star, Topeka Capital Journal and Manhattan Mercury to students across campus. The program, started in 2002 when Student Governing Association made the decision to bring the program to campus, was fully funded by student fees and was intended to only be used by K-State students.

After reviewing the budget, SGA cited the rising cost of subscriptions, malfunctioning hardware across campus, and an interest in pursuing online options as reasons for the decision to discontinue. Representatives of the Collegiate Readership Program will begin removing the newspaper bins after the spring semester has ended.
