K-State's League of United Latin American Citizens to host state convention April 8

The K-State League of United Latin American Citizens council, an official student organization, will host this year's Kansas League of United Latin American Citizens State Convention on Saturday, April 8, at the K-State Student Union.

The following sessions on April 8 are free and open to the public.

Madaí Rivera, director of the Kansas council; Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students; K-State council officers; and Usha Reddi, mayor of Manhattan, will provide a welcome at 9 a.m. in the Big 12 Room of the K-State Student Union. 

A Law Enforcement Panel will be at 9:30 a.m. in the Big 12 Room at the K-State Student Union. Panel members include Lt. Greg Harkrader, Kansas Highway Patrol; Deputy Chief Col. Jose Salcido, Wichita Police Department; Maj. Assistant Chief Oscar Ruiz, K-State Police Department; and Claudia Yaujar-Amaro, Wichita community activist.

Attorneys Michael Sharma-Crawford, Michele Buschart and Jessica Piedra; a representative from the Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City; and Ana Jimenez, a member of the Kansas/Missouri Dream Alliance, will present an Immigration and Community Empowerment Panel at 11 a.m. in the Big 12 Room of the K-State Student Union. 

Both panels will provide updates, valuable information and answer questions. Learn more about the national organization.
