A timeless tale: Moscow Festival Ballet to perform 'The Sleeping Beauty' April 29 at McCain

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

A classic fairy tale will come to life in the Moscow Festival Ballet's performance of "The Sleeping Beauty" at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.

The ballet will be performed at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, as part of the 2011-2012 McCain Performance Series.

"This is an event the entire family will enjoy," said Todd Holmberg, director of McCain Auditorium.

The pre-performance activity "Fairy Tales and Fun!" will be prior to the show at 2:30 p.m. in the courtyard at the K-State Student Union.

"Children going to the performance are invited to a free pre-event party, 'Fairy Tales and Fun!' The event will feature games, snacks, crafts, story time and a coloring and costume contest. I hope parents bring their cameras," Holmberg said.

The Moscow Festival Ballet's performance tells the timeless story of a sleeping princess, a handsome prince and the triumph of good over evil. Along with a theatrical performance, the ballet company presents lavish sets, beautiful costumes, gifted principal dancers and a talented corps de ballet.

"The Sleeping Beauty" ballet was created in 1890 by choreographer Marius Petipa and composer Tchaikovsky.

Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $15 for K-State students and $30 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military and children are also available.
