Two speakers to lecture on shedding a light on disability rights

Submitted by Kara Tanner

Beth Mdirangu and Stu Wambulawae, two women working to raise awareness about disability rights, will speak at a large lecture event from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. The lecture is open for all students and community members.

Mdirangu and Wambulawae will discuss their experiences, why disability rights awareness is important and how K-State can be more inclusive to those with disabilities.

In summer 2016, both Mdirangu and Wambulawae were members of the Mandela Washington Fellows at Kansas State University's Civic Leadership Institute. Mdirangu bravely lives with cerebral palsy and has served as the corporate ambassador for the Cerebral Palsy Society of Kenya. Wambulawae works as a CURE Kids coordinator in Zambia, which gives free, life-changing surgeries to children with disabilities.

If you cannot attend the lecture, Mdirangu and Wambulawae will visit with two LEAD 350 classes from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, and 9:30-10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 127 Leadership Studies Building.
