K-State Libraries reminder regarding subscription nonrenewals

Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt

As a result of recent financial callbacks from the state and lower overall allocations for fiscal year 2017, K-State Libraries are making more significant subscription cuts.

After careful evaluation, we have posted the current titles of resources that are being discontinued at lib.k-state.edu/non-renewal. We will update this website regularly.

For the last seven years, the K-State Libraries have worked to enhance resources for faculty and students while dealing with a flat budget allocated to collections. At the same time, journal prices have increased at an average of about six percent annually.

Even though we negotiate for the best rate possible, these inflation costs accumulate year after year. For example, from 2010 to 2015, package prices from just five major publishers increased 17 percent, which resulted in an increase of $417,000.

We understand that cuts do not go unnoticed; however, we are unable to maintain these resources in the current fiscal climate.
