K-State alumni membership tops in Big 12 for 16th consecutive year

Submitted by Steve Logback

Kansas State University alumni have demonstrated again why they are regarded to be among the most loyal graduates in the nation. A comparison of information submitted by Big 12 Conference universities placed K-State No. 1 in the conference for the percentage of graduates who are members of their respective alumni associations.

This marks the 16th consecutive year, and since the creation of the Big 12, that K-State has finished in the top position among Big 12 institutions, said Kelly Law, director of membership and marketing for the K-State Alumni Association.

She added that the membership of the association is 38,624 alumni. This represents more than 25 percent of the total living graduates of K-State.

"As indicated by this new information, alumni support of our university is unmatched in the Big 12," said K-State President Kirk H. Schulz. "I see this in the attendance at alumni events around the state and nation. This distinction is something all K-Staters can take great pride in, and we are truly grateful for the loyalty and passion our alumni have for their alma mater. Moreover, a strong and growing alumni association is integral to becoming a top 50 public research university."

"We strive to retain this No. 1 ranking, and new members are always welcome, whether they are a graduate or simply a K-State fan," Law said.

Established in 1874, the K-State Alumni Association is committed to providing lifelong connections to the university for nearly 40,000 members and all others in the Wildcat family. Guided by a diverse and accomplished volunteer board of directors, staff administers programming beginning with newborns just entering the K-State family to prospective students, current students, alumni and friends.

These activities include reunions, student recruitment, career services, legislative advocacy, student scholarships, awards programs, pregame events, travel opportunities, promotion and preservation of K-State traditions, administration of the Alumni Center, management of the university's database and other activities and events for K-Staters worldwide.
