Hosni selected as university 2014 International Educator of the Year
The Office of International Programs has selected Mo Hosni, professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering, as the 2014 International Educator of the Year.
Hosni will receive his award at the International Education of the Year Awards Reception from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Alumni Center. Provost April Mason present the award.
Hosni joined the K-State College of Engineering faculty in 1991. He was director of the Institute for Environmental Research from 1993 to 2001, and served as head of the department of mechanical and nuclear engineering from 2001 to 2009. He is the Charles and Nona Frankenhoff chair in engineering and professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering.
"What an honor it is for our department," said Bill Dunn, professor and head of the mechanical and nuclear engineering department and the Steven M. and Kay L. Theede chair in engineering. "Mo is very deserving but it is often the case that the deserving people are somehow overlooked. My hearty congratulations go to Mo."
According to his nomination information, it was noted that Hosni is passionate about advising and mentoring students and he currently as advisor for a number of international undergraduate students from Austria and Hong Kong among many other countries.
Hosni is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and has been recognized at K-State with the Myers-Alford Teaching Excellence Award and the Research Excellence Award. He also was a recipient of the 2003 American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers Distinguished Service Award. In 2004, he was named a distinguished fellow of the Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering.
Hosni received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State in 1989, and then accepted a postdoctoral research associate position there to continue work on a project sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
The award ceremony also will recognize the 2014 outstanding support for international initiatives and 2014 innovative education program of the year. Additional awardees will be announced this week. Join us in celebrating the winners at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Alumni Center.
