Yale sociologist to speak

Elijah Anderson

Elijah Anderson, professor of sociology and director of the urban ethnography project at Yale University, will present "The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life" from 9:30-10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the K-State Student Union's Forum Hall. Anderson's remarks will be primarily for the benefit of undergraduates. A book-signing session will follow.

Anderson is the author of several widely recognized contemporary classics in the field of sociology. He also is  regarded as one of the world's foremost urban ethnographer. Anderson will meet with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate researchers during his Oct. 7-8 visit to campus. His visit is sponsored by the sociology, anthropology and social work department, the Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry, the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and W.W. Norton Inc., the publisher of Anderson's 2011 book, "The Cosmopolitan Canopy," which many hundreds of students in various of sections of Introduction to Sociology, SOCIO 211, are reading as part of their studies this semester.
