New York City architect to present College of Architecture, Planning & Design's Bryant Lecture

Submitted by Thom Jackson

David J. Lewis, a principal at LTL Architects, will be the first speaker for the College of Architecture, Planning & Design's 2014-2015 Distinguished Lecture Series. Lewis' lecture, "Architecture of Social Intensification," will be the series' Bryant Lecture and will be presented at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. It is free and the public is welcome.

The Bryant Lecture is named in honor of Lee A. Bryant, a K-State architecture alumnus who died in 1981. The lecture series is a living tribute to Bryant's passion for art and a fitting means for sharing with future generations of students his concern for the vital interaction of art and architecture.

Lewis is an associate professor at Parsons the New School for Design in the School of Constructed Environments. At Parsons, he directed the Design Workshop program from 2007 to 2010; was on the faculty for the Solar Decathlon project in 2011; and served as interim dean from 2012-2013.

LTL Architects was founded in 1997 by Paul Lewis, Marc Tsurumaki and Lewis in New York City. Some of the firm's most noted and award-winning works include Steeplechase Pier, Claremont University Consortium and Bornhuetter Hall.

The firm received a 2007 National Design Award from the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and was selected as one of six American architectural firms featured in the U.S. Pavilion at the 2004 Venice Architecture Biennale. LTL was included in the 2000 National Design Triennial at the Cooper-Hewitt and was selected in December 2000 by Architectural Record as one of 10 firms representing a "Vanguard in Contemporary Architecture."
