Graduate students in the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications program had their research accepted at annual local and national communication conferences.

Imani Thanji presented co-authored research with Bethany Quesnell titled "'Doctor, it hurts so much I can't sit down': Media and the Health Coverage of Buttock Silicone Injections," and Katie Mayes presented "Alzheimer's Facebook Support Groups: User Gratification and Perceptions of Information Accuracy" at the K-State Research Forum on March 26.

Joseph Chapes was selected at Research and the State graduate student poster session on Oct. 29, 2013, as one of the top 10 students to present at the 11th annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit in Topeka on Feb. 13. His poster titled "Encouraging the Adoption of E. Coli Control and Prevention Strategies: Analysis of an Online Training Intervention" was co-authored with Master of Public Health students Mylissia Stukey and Heidi Yonkey. He presented data from a project that investigated the effectiveness of using an online training video to encourage cattle producers to adopt pre-harvest strategies to help reduce E. Coli contamination through the perspective of the Theory of Planned Behavior.

Chapes is set to present a related poster at the 2014 Kentucky Conference on Health Communication in Lexington, Ky., April 10-11. This poster is "Exploring Cattle Producers' Attitudes, Norms, Perceived Behavior Control and Intention to Adopt E. Coli Control and Prevention Strategies."

Xiaofei Song’s paper, "Influence of Nutrition Literacy on Adult Consumers," was accepted for presentation at the 2014 Society for Nutritional Education and Behavior annual conference in Milwaukee, Wis., June 28-July 1.
