K-State Salina campus gets exclusive look at K-State documentary

Submitted by Julee Cobb

A variety of students, staff and faculty at K-State Salina came together Monday for an exclusive, first look at “A Long Road: 150 Years of Collective Experience from Five African-American K-State Alumni.” The movie premiered to more than 75 guests as part of the Diversity High Tea sponsored by the Multicultural Student Union.

“A Long Road” demonstrated the struggle, sacrifice and triumph of five African-Americans with a history at Kansas State University. Each one gave a deeply personal account of their life, including breaking racial barriers as children and teenagers and integrating into the Manhattan community. The video participants — Kathleen Greene, David L. Griffin Sr., Juanita McGowan, Charles I. Rankin and Veryl Switzer — were each in attendance at the screening.

K-State Salina faculty and staff were honored to be chosen as the location for the premiere and appreciates the planning and traveling that was involved to make the event a success. “A Long Road” will make its debut in Manhattan on Thursday at the Alumni Center.
