University using Twitter to reach out to potential job applicants

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Anyone can now keep abreast of the latest job openings at Kansas State University by following @KStateJobs on Twitter.

The university's affirmative action office began posting job openings on the social media site in June to increase the diversity of the university's job applicants, expand K-State's presence on social media and as a cost-effective advertising method.

The twitter feed has 500 followers, but Roberta Maldonado-Franzen, interim director of the affirmative action, said her office is always looking for ways to reach even larger numbers of people through social media. In October, the twitter handle directed more than 270 views to the university employment website, and the university celebrated its 100th tweet regarding employment on Oct. 31.

Job openings are updated weekly, and postings include different hashtags to target different ethnicities and typically underserved groups. @KStateJobs also follows the twitter accounts of historically diverse universities as well as veterans' accounts.

Maldonado-Franzen said the affirmative action office would like to expand its online presence among disability services to target and even wider range of potential job applicants.
